Jason and I called 8 Owanka Lane our first home together. Mom and dad let us convert their summer lake cabin into a year round home so we would have a place to live. We really didn't convert the whole cabin we just put in a gas fireplace and some insulation under the floorboards from underneath. Let's just say it wasn't always the warmest house during the winter...it was actually really cold! We never did get the vertical blinds to ever stop fluttering because of any breeze that found it's way in no matter what we tried to do to stop it.
We lived here for our first seven wonderful years together, but tonight we packed up our remaining items in the garage (you know the items you don't know what to do with when you decide to actually move into a house and not a cabin) and said "Goodbye" to a place that will always have special meaning to us!
It was a quant little place that is smaller than most peoples garage (it was smaller than the garage that goes with the property), but it was just perfect for us and our first baby, Cooper our black lab, puppy, dog, friend. It's located on a prairie lake that attracts tons of wildlife. Typically there wasn't a day that would go by without us seeing a pheasant or a deer run across the road ahead of us.
Our favorite time of the year to live on the lake wasn't the summer time, no our favorite time to call the lake our home was in the fall, winter and spring seasons when there wasn't the hustle and bustle of lake life. I loved the stillness of the lake in the fall, the snow covered body of water in the winter, and watching the ice leave in the spring.
Tonight we attempted to get the cabin, deck and garage ready for the new owners that will soon call it their oasis. We hope that they enjoy this little piece of Heaven as much as we did!
As Jason drove out of the driveway with the kids in the pickup I decided to walk down the road to say a quiet "goodbye and thank you to our little home."
As I walked down Owanka Lane I said "Hello" to mom and dad's soon to be new home...2 Owanka Lane. They will be moving down three houses from their lake home to set up year round residency. This will be a huge change for them and Teak the dog, but an exciting one! My brother and and his family will be moving onto the farm, which is an exciting move for his family as well! Nathan and Elizabeth will now be across the section from our home, not just a half a mile away.
Mom is pretty apprehensive about actually moving out to the lake, mostly because she is afraid we won't be able to just pop in on our way home, either to pick up Henry or to see what's for dinner, haha! Seriously, I think that is her biggest fear...but we've tried to reassure her that there will be many Sunday afternoons that we will be looking for something to do and or something to eat!
Most lake lots on Lake Shetek are 50 or 75 foot lake lots, meaning they have 50 or 75 feet of lake front property with little to nothing more than that same width of property back a few hundred feet to the road used to voyage to ones cabin. Large lake lots would be the 100 foot of lake front places...2 Owanka is something different, which is rare on Lake Shetek; it only has 50 feet of lake front, but is comprised of about 3 acres of actual property. Mom and dad will have quite a bit of mowing to do with many trees to maneuver around, but with that comes such a nice private back part of the lot that will make for a great little get-a-way when they are outside enjoying their new place. We look forward to spending many summer days at the lake once again, starting next summer when they will be living there.
