Pampering with Honey!

Our little sweet cheeks is getting a little pampering with honey!  The skin care prevention doctor came in to see Tovin to make sure that his skin is being treated well, and if his backside was doing ok as far as not developing any sore spots.  What a great service, I never would have thought about his skin!  Everyday we are more impressed with Children's.  There are so many services available to their patients.

We asked her if that meant that she was also a dermatologist, and yep she is.  She specialized in eczema, but loves every part of the skin; she is also a pediatric doctor to boot .  It's always good to have doctors that have a passion for their work!  I have never talked to someone that is so excited about skin.

We had her look at some unique white spots on Tovin's body that we noticed during his first bath with us.  She was wondering if they were part of some traditional Chinese medicine practices or they could just be part of his skin make-up.  When I have time tonight I'm going to do a Goggle search for these markings. It's all part of Toivn's story that he will be able to share when he's ready to!

She also looked closely at Tovin's left cheek.  In the last update picture we received from the orphanage his cheeks didn't have any marks on them, but when we met him we noticed that he had a large gouge on his left cheek.  The skin specialist suggested many different types of products that could help the healing process, but the more questions she asked us, she said that she had the perfect product!  It's a medical grade of honey.

It's called MEDIHONEY, Medihoney is made from bees in New Zealand that pollinate the native Manuka bush.  It is a medical-grade honey that has healing properties.  She said it would be perfect for Tovin's wound.  We hope that this honey will help our honey!

Tovin has been more comfortable today than he was yesterday, until just a bit ago.  He still wakes up and squirms around and moans, but his nurses are very on top of this, and are trying to make sure that he stays comfortable.  Tovin was going to get his chest tubes out this afternoon, but the surgeon is not comfortable with taking them out yet.  He has some air pockets around his neck and in his chest that he wants gone before the chest tubes come out.  We are waiting for those to come out!  We will be able to hold him and walk with him once they are!

The nurse also feels that he will be able to got off his oxygen soon!  This would be another big step in his healing!

I haven't taken very many pictures today because he's just been sleeping most of the day, and when he does wake up he's in no mood for the camera!  He continues to look better everyday, we can all see the change!  He has also been allowed to eat and drink today.  He has sucked down two apple juices already!  This is what is causing him to have pain now, his belly is really hard to the touch, and he is almost more uncomfortable now than he has been since he got out of surgery.  Poor little guy, he may need an enema.
